Each month we normally host short presentations on rotating topics in the Lunar Lounge. BUT, for July, we’re setting up OUTSIDE in the East Side Social District for some nerdy activities. Be there and be square! Here’s what you need to know for this month!
Where: East Side Social District (outside Tank Space on 8th @ 1110 E. Eighth St., Traverse City, MI)
When: Thursday, July 30, 7 – 8:30p
How: Show up! There is no cover.
What: Presenters this month:
“Drone Demos” with Dont’e Kelly
Join drone pilot Dont’e Kelly of DKDrones to learn more about what makes a drone, demos, tips for getting started, and helpful do’s and don’ts.
Dont’e Kelly started flying drones in 2016 as a hobby. In his free time, he created obstacle courses to hone his skills. Fast forward through all of the ups and downs of that journey (literally), and he is now providing drone services to individuals and companies around the US.
“Historical Weapons Petting Zoo” with Grand Traverse Historical Weapons Guild
No, you can’t attack the drones! Play nice. Get a hands-on look at a variety of historical weapons and ask all the questions you can think of! Like does a rapier beat a longsword in a fight?
Anna and Anthony co-own Historical Weapons Guild, which was founded in Austin, Texas, and has a location right here in northern Michigan where you too can learn to swordfight! Anthony has been studying Historical European Martial Arts for twelve years, and Anna has been at it for seven. They both believe that anyone can learn how to safely hit their friends and they work to make an inclusive sword school for folks to nerd out on history, old books, and of course SWORDS.
There is no charge for this event.
