Let’s welcome Nerd Nite back after a holiday hiatus and kick off 2026 with gusto! You can find us (and other nerds) gathering at Tank Space on 8th the last Thursday of each month for Nerd Nite. Our January nite is shaping up to be a good one with two unique musical presentations. Details below!

Where: Tank Space (1110 East Eighth Street, Traverse City, MI)

When: Thursday, January 29th, 7 – 9p (doors open at 6:30p)

How: Show up! There is no cover for this event, but seats are limited and first come, first served.

What: Presentations this month:

“Reluctant Icon: Wendy Carlos as Synth Pioneer and Transgender Trailblazer” by Amanda Sewell

Amanda is the author of a biography on Wendy Carlos and serves as the music director for Interlochen Public Radio. Sewell’s musicological scholarship has also appeared in the Journal of the Society for American Music, the Journal of Popular Music Studies and the Cambridge Companion to Hip Hop.

“78s for The People” by Alex Tank

Alex is an avid record collector, focused on the world of 78 rpm recordings from the 1920s through the 1950s. Away from the turntable, Alex serves as the director of the International Affairs Forum at Northwestern Michigan College. Previously, he worked in the craft beer industry, first in Georgia & then in northern Michigan.
