“Local Matters” by Mayor Amy Shamroe

Hear about some of the nerdy ways you can get involved in your local community’s government, and WHY participation in these nerdy local issues matters!

Amy Shamroe is the Mayor of Traverse City. She was born and raised in Traverse City and was elected to the City Commission in 2015. Amy worked in the world of publishing for almost 20 years, and recently took a position with NMC working on the Governor’s Sixty by 30 initiative on workforce development. She has a passion for connecting people with local government and loves to talk to people about everything from taxes to zoning.

“Creature Feature: Meet the Wild Critters that Put the Funk in Sour Beers” by Andrew Kidwell-Brix

Learn about the wild yeast, bacteria and unconventional fermentation techniques that produce sourness, funk and other unique beer flavors.

Andrew is a co-owner (with his wife Jamie) of Earthen Ales and Tank Space on 8th. He is pretty sure he has been fermenting things for at least 20 years now, and is certain that he continues to be fascinated by the transformations that microorganisms can bring about.

Be there and be square!
